Job Summary/Basic Function:

Research in the lab explores ecological and evolutionary questions related to the outcome and environmental impact of host-microbe interactions (www.meganrua.com). Our research projects occur in the field, lab, and greenhouse and includes ecological genetics, microbial culturing, and field-based species identification. Field and greenhouse duties will include soil and plant collection, measurement of environmental parameters, seed preparation, experimental set-up and monitoring, and data entry.

Minimum Qualifications

M.S. in Ecology, Soil Microbiology, Mycology, Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Agronomy, Horticulture or related discipline with at least one year of previous research experience, basic ecological genetic skills (PCR, sequencing, genotyping), strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Research experience may include assistant/technician/internship positions while an undergraduate or graduate student.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with next generation sequencing, microscopy, and data analysis is preferred.

Essential Functions and percent of time:

75% Lab duties will include sample processing, microbial culturing, routine molecular tasks (DNA extraction, PCR, sequencing, genotyping), and next generation sequencing library prep.

25% Responsible for day-to-day lab organization and safety under the direction of the PI. Activities include supply inventory and ordering, maintaining lab records (hardcopy and digital), and working collaboratively with other lab members.

Special Contract terms and conditions of employment apply. Length of contract is one year, renewable, contingent upon funding.
