Job Summary/Basic Function:

Provide administrative leadership and management in support of student academic success and retention. Develop and carry out academic support programs for medical students at the Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM). Collaborate with faculty and administrators in BSOM to promote successful student matriculation through the programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in related field (medical or education) required. 5 years of experience working with students as an academic advisor/learning specialist to promote academic success. Proven ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators. Well-organized and able to work independently, possessing a high degree of initiative, creativity and motivation.

Preferred Qualifications

10 years related experience
Experience managing a learning management system. Experience in working with medical students as an academic advisor/learning specialist.

Essential Functions and percent of time:

70% — Provide Student Academic Support to improve student learning and retention by:
•Collaborating with faculty, staff, and administration to offer supplementary academic services to complement coursework and assist in developing individualized plans for students, including individualized academic counseling for students to promote successful matriculation
•Participating in program development and developing assessment instruments
•Organizing a comprehensive USMLE Step 1 preparation program for second year medical students

10% — Compile and analyze statistics through a data management system to evaluate and document the academic support services that contribute to the successful matriculation of medical students

10% — Assist in training Student Peer Tutors in best practices and theories of learning strategies

10% — Respond to student concerns and suggestions for improving academic support services and programs
